JAMMU, July 13: A meeting between 20 Sarpanchs of Akhnoor Tehsil and SDPO Akhnoor was held in the lawns of SDPO office to discuss the situation erupted due to COVID-19 pandemic.
In the meeting, the role of elected Panchayat members in fight against COVID-19 was discussed by the SDPO Akhnoor, Ajay Sharma. He stressed that Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) can play a vital role to contain the Pandemic in rural areas.
Every Sarpanch was requested to enforce the instructions issued by administration and ensure that every member of Panchayat wears mask. They were urged to launch door to door campaign in all Panchayats of the Police Sub Division Akhnoor. Further, it was stressed that the areas close to the banks of mighty Chenab River be sanitized with respect to sudden flash floods during rainy season.
The SDPO stressed upon the Sarpanchs to aware the masses in their Panchayats for using the water and electricity judiciously and in case of prolonged power cuts and no water supply, the concerned officers be contacted rather than resorting to protests, which is risky due to COVID-19 spread.
It was requested to all Sarpanchs to be an active member in securing the safety of nation. They were told to report to police if any suspect or suspicious movement and object is noticed by them.
