Abid Mushtaq takes fifer as Railways gain vital 1st innings lead

JAMMU, Mar 4: J&K’s left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq captured 5 important wickets but that was not enough to stop Railways batsmen from taking vital first innings lead in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match at IIT Chemplast, Chennai.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 0/0, Railways lost opener Vivek Singh early in the 10th over of their innings as wicketkeeper Fazil Rashid took a brilliant catch behind the stumps on the bowling of Parvez Rasool. Another opener Pratham Singh was in sublime touch, who in the company of number-3 Shivam Chaudhary took the score to 139 runs in 35.2 overs, before former was dismissed at his individual score of 75 runs off 139 balls, studded with 10 fours and one six. Soon after his dismissal, Railways lost Shivam Chaudhary (47) and Arindam Ghosh (09) in quick succession at the team’s total of 161/4 in 43.4 overs.
With brief but good contributions by Karn Sharma (36), Mohammad Saif (31) and Yuvraj unbeaten (22), Railways managed to gain a vital first innings and were 297/8 at the draw of stumps today.
For Jammu and Kashmir, Abid Mushtaq was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 5 wickets by conceding 72 runs in his 25 overs, while Auqib Nabi took 2 wickets by giving away 46 runs in his 11 overs and Parvez claimed one.
