JAMMU, July 27: Federation of All India Vyapar Mandal (FAIVM) has urged upon the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari to abolish all the Toll Plazas in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter written to the Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari today, J&K unit president of the Federation, Sanjay Bansal said that prior to the abrogation of Article 370 in the J&K State, the local leadership of BJP had assured the citizens of the State and the business community that there would be no Toll Plazas in J&K UT after abrogation of this Article on August 5, 2019.
But inspite of the existing Toll Plazas, the UT Administration created one more that is on October 20, 2019 on National Highway A-1, which is the only route to enter J&K after Lakhanpur Toll Plaza, within 60 kms at Sarore. Even during that J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina at a press conference had clarified that since there are no Toll Plazas in any Union Territory, therefore, there will not be any Toll Plaza in J&K as well. The Govt on December 31, 2019 announced closure of Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur but unfortunately, on July 21, 2020 it was made operational again, despite strong public protest.
The public is facing hardships due to Corona pandemic but Govt is imposing more taxes on the public, without bothering about their sufferings. The public is being punished for none of its fault. The general public will be worst hit with it as this is the direct and indirect burden on the public. The Federation urged upon the Union Minister to abolish all the Toll Plazas in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir without any more delay.
