UDHAMPUR, July 27: Up in arms against the apathetic approach of the concerned authorities, activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Udhampur today staged a dharna in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School Damnot, which is being run from two rooms following collapse of the school building due to heavy rain and windstorm.
The protest dharna was organized under the supervision of Sunil Singh, who lamented that the students are suffering because of no class rooms and sitting arrangement for them. “The said school in Panchari was upgraded up to 10+2 in the year 2005 but it is still is functioning in the old building of Primary and Middle school as the newly constructed building got collapsed due to heavy rains and windstorm,” he added.
These GHSS has only two rooms to accommodate above 450 students, including 300 girls and 150 boys, who are forced to have their classes in the open ground. In case of bad weather, the school remains closed.
The protesting ABVP activists appealed the higher authorities to take immediate steps for providing temporary accommodation for the class rooms and washroom facility etc in the school.
