JAMMU, Nov 12: Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather has strongly favoured inclusion of moral education in school curriculum.
Rather said while speaking at the Annual Day function of Coventry Scholars Senior Secondary School held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University, here today.
He said academic and extra-curricular activities together are vital for widening the horizon of thought.
Rather, who was chief guest on the occasion, said that religion should not be separated from the education because moral education is also imperative for all-round personality development of a child.
He urged for introducing games in educational institutions in a big way to imbibe a spirit of sportsmanship, confidence and discipline among the children adding that these qualities are necessary for an efficient administrator and a successful person in the life.
While speaking, Raman Bhalla, Minister for Relief, Revenue and Rehabilitation, who was the guest of honour, impressed upon the students to work with dedication to achieve their desired goals. He impressed upon the students to do their best for the upliftment of the society and nation in particular.
On the occasion, tiny tots presented a scintillating cultural programme and enthralled the audience. Famous Kashmiri poet, Dina Nath Nadim’s opera “Vyath Aye Mehren Sonye” and “Bumbroo-Bumbroo” in addition to “Darya Kinaray” and “Ghoomar” were special attractions of the cultural bonanza.
Minister announced a cash prize of Rs one lakh in favour of the best performing students of the school in academics and extracurricular activities.
Earlier, Principal of the school, Dr Asha Dhar presented the welcome address followed by annual report highlighting major achievements of the school and students.
Among others present were Javeed Khateeb, Joint Secretary, BOSE, Vijay Bakaya, MLC, Pankaj Handoo, Sunny Mujoo, Choreographer, faculty members, students and their parents.
