SRINAGAR: Describing the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India as ‘conditional’, working president of the National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah today said his party will defend the State flag at any cost.
Addressing a congregation organized on the first death anniversary of party general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad, Mr Abdullah said Jammu and Kashmir there was no merger with India. It was only accession with India, which was conditional, the former Chief Minister said.
It is the duty of the Government of India to honour the commitments made with the people of the State, he said.
Mr Abdullah also demanded restoration of full autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir which has been eroded after then Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was removed ”illegally” and jailed in 1953.
About the controversy erupted during the PDP-BJP coalition rule in the State regarding the State flag, he said, “My party and people of the State will offer any sacrifice to protect the State flag”. (AGENCIES)
