JAMMU, Nov 19:
Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Ambika Soni today alleged that the BJP is playing vote bank politics to achieve “Mission 44+” in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls.
The five-phase polls are starting from November 25. “Modi-led Government has initiated its Mission 44+ with a target to form the next Government in J&K, but, unfortunately, they have created an illusion on this issue and are playing petty politics to achieve the target,” Ms Soni said while addressing a press conference here.
Ms Soni was flanked by the former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Saif-ud-Din Soz.
“Whether Jammu or Kashmir region, BJP is desperately politicising certain issues to achieve its mission,” the Congress leader said.
She alleged that the people whom the BJP called “anti-nationals”, some of their leaders have also met them in the Valley besides the members of the RSS cadre, adding “all tactics are being adopted by the saffron party to reach the figure of 44 plus”.
She also added that those who left the BJP after they were denied tickets, were being called back to fulfil their Mission. “People running NGOs, academicians and professionals are being given mandate in the Kashmir Valley by the BJP only to play vote bank politics,” the former Union Minister added. She said the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led UPA-I and UPA-II Governments believed in dialogue to settle certain issues, adding, “there was no hidden agenda during Congress regime. Settlement of West Pakistani refugees was an agenda of the UPA Government which has been put on back-burner by the present Government at the Centre”.
“We announced a special package for refugees but the BJP Government did not go ahead with it and lingered on the process,” Ms Soni added.
The Congress stalwart said equal distribution of resources and development in all the three regions of J&K is the motto of the Congress party.
“We are fighting elections to win and will form the next Government in J&K,” she said. (AGENCIES)
