JAMMU, Sept 29: Taking serious note of the dismal show by the Jammu and Kashmir State players at the national scene, the Director Youth Services and Sports, S Jaipal Singh said that the department would take tough measures against the non-performing officials, institutions and the districts in the field of sports.
He said this on the sidelines of a valedictory function of the Divisional Level Inter-District Tournaments, which concluded at Indoor Complex in MA Stadium, here.
The Director Sports said that it has been observed that the students of various schools and even some districts across the State have proven failure while participating in various sports activities organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in the State, adding that the department would be taking stern action against its field staff posted in such institutions.
He said that participating merely for the sake of participation do not set ‘Thames on Fire’, adding that what actually is needed is to take part in the events with a purpose of winning, though winning and losing being the part and parcel of sports and games.
While directing the field staff to be fair and justified in selecting the players, Mr Jaipal said that a new strict and transparent policy would be adopted to pick the teams for forthcoming National School Games.
He said the non-participation of district teams in the Inter-District tournaments serves as a stumbling block in promoting sports at the grass-root level, adding that the defaulters would receive a harsh treatment.
Meanwhile, speaking on the valedictory function, Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports presented welcome address and gave brief report of the activities held so far in the season.
“The DYSS has finished most of the activities with a record number of 23 events with the participation of 2760 players so far in the season,” the Deputy Director informed.
He further said that the performance graph of J&K State at the higher levels has increased during last three years.
Dr Swaran Singh Chib, DYSSO Reasi was also present on the occasion.
