JAMMU, Sept 22: Aditya Sharma, Akshay Kumar and Rohit Sodhi were among other cueists who qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing 22nd Jammu District Open Junior and Senior Billiards and Snooker Championship, being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Billiards and Snooker Association (JKBSA) at Billiards Hall in MA Stadium, here.
Earlier, in the pre-quarterfinals, Aditya Sharma prevailed upon the last year’s runner-up Gagandeep Singh in a close contest (2-1) by (41-54, 64-54, 43-33). After losing the first set, Aditya came back brilliantly to win the other two sets convincingly.
In other contests, Akshay Kumar got better of Mandeep Singh in straight sets (2-0) by (48-36, 70-42), while Rohit Sodhi outclassed Vasudev Singh (2-0) by (63-26, 61-07), Abhi Gupta trounced Pankaj Sharma 2-0 (45-24, 34-33), Sanjay Sharma toppled Sanand Sharma 2-0 (59-46, 63-51) and Aditya Sharma beat Gaurav Panday 2-1by ( 24-53, 58-40, 67-29).
The quarterfinal matches in junior snooker and the draws for the senior snooker would be held tomorrow.
Other results: Gaurav Panday outclassed Shubham Badyal 2-1 (39-69, 58-27, 49-38.), Nikhil Magotra trounced Sachin Bamba 2-0 (63-49, 47-37), Sanand Sharma toppled Kushal Gupta 2-0 (57-28, 66-22), Sanjay Sharma outplayed Baban Rao 2-0 (72-24, 63-49), Nikhil Verma outwitted Ankit Mahajan 2-0 (70-56, 63-29), Gautam Jamwal defeated Arjun Manhas 2-0 (66-59, 71-60) and Ankush Verma got better of Nikhil Salathia 2-1 (63-38, 33-42, 74-48).
