Admn holds public meetings across IB in Kathua

KATHUA, Aug 29: District Administration organised a series of public meetings across International Border in Kathua to redress the grievances of border villages residents, informing about evacuation plan devised for district, developmental issues and security related aspects.
District Magistrate Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary accompanied by SSP Mohan Lal, Commandants of BSF Harjeet Rana and Vireendra, ACR Suraj Rukwal, ACD Tilak Raj, DIO, ExEn of PHE, PWD, I&FC, REW, PDD, Mechanical and district officers of Planning, Agriculture, DRDA, Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Education, Revenue; Tehsildar Hiranagar, BDOs Hiranagar and Barnoti, and other officers of lien departments held a series of camps at Bobiya, Marheen, Manyari, Koota and villages along the IB.
Border residents raised issues related to developmental works under BADP, construction of compound walls of schools, poor condition of BRO roads, need for hand pumps, electricity supply schedule, drinking water, irrigation, banking, toilet facilities and interior roads and lanes. Compensation for loss of crops and animals in shelling, reservation on pattern of LoC, payment of land compensation, award of rights under Roshni, shifting of border fence, cultivation across fencing, creation of drinking water facilities for milch animals, flood protection and other demands were raised at various camps. Border Action Committee members and Sarpanches, Panchs, Lumberdars from various villages also participated in the meeting.
The DDC formulated plan for providing hand pumps immediately, taking up construction of compound walls of schools, cultivation across the fence, developmental activities under BADP from current financial year, special plan for developmental needs and power supply. Sectoral officers were directed to inform the public within one week about the action taken.
Commandant BSF agreed to the demand of security to be extended for cultivation of fields. The DDC later visited the BSF Hq and appreciated the brave efforts of the officers and Jawans for maintaining calm along the border and very proactively involving public in various issues.
District administration has also formulated evacuation plan and identified buildings like schools, community halls, panchayats for housing the people, secure movement of livestock, health facilities, temporary toilets to be raised, ration supply, drinking water and other civil supplies in the border areas. The DDC also inspected a number of roads and buildings in the border area which are being taken for development shortly as public demands.
