JAMMU, Nov 22: Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today inaugurated 56th Artistic Gymnastics and 25th Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships at New Gymnastics Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
The championship was organised by Gymnastics Association of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, in which Advisor Khan was the chief guest, while Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta were the guests of honour.
The championship started off with the National Anthem, followed by the lighting of lamps by the chief guest and the dignitaries. A welcome address was delivered by chairman organising committee, Rajesh Gupta, followed by speeches by president of Gymnastics Association J&K (GAJK) and vice-president Gymnastics Federation of India Er Kiran Wattal, president Gymnastics Federation of India, Sudhir Mittal, Nusrat Gull, Secretary J&K Sports Council and others.
Teams from various States and UTs including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Rajasthan, Punjab, Odisha, Maharashtra, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and many others participated in the championship.
Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Khan said that the administration of J&K (UT) welcomed you all and thanked the organising committee of GAJK and J&K Sports Council for organising 56th Artistic Gymnastics and 25th Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in J&K.
He expressed hope that all the participants from different States and UTs of India enjoyed the beauty and warm welcoming culture of J&K UT and spread the word of this enchanted and soul soothing beauty of J&K at in their home States.
The Gymnastic demonstrations were also presented before the dignitaries, followed by the vote of thanks which was presented by Ravinder Singh, general secretary of Gymnastics Association of J&K.
Dr. GS Bawa (Director Competition) and coaches of different teams and players from different States were present during the inaugural ceremony.
