JAMMU, Dec 10: The Chancellor’s Trophy-2019 organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu commenced today at the University Sports Stadium, after it was declared open by unfurling the University Flag by KK Sharma, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in the presence of Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu & large gathering of dignitaries, players, officials, employees & students of the University as well as the people from the civil society.
While addressing the gathering KK Sharma, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir congratulated the organizers for organizing such type of Sports events, which will provide an opportunity to the students of the various Universities of Jammu and Kashmir to come closer to each other besides showing their Sports talent.
Mr Sharma also appreciated the mass participation of the players of the various Universities in the different events of the Chancellor’s Trophy -2019 i.e Hockey (M&W), Football (M&W) & Cricket (M&W). He also unveiled the Trophy of the Chancellor’s Trophy -2019.
Prof Manoj Dhar in his address said that the University of Jammu is organizing various sports activities to engage the energy of the youth of the University as well as the UT of J&K.
He said sports and games help in physical fitness apart from inculcating sportsmanship, leadership, unity and competitive spirit among the students.
It is pertinent to mention here that the University of Jammu is organizing the Chancellor’s Trophy as resolved in the 85th meeting of the University Council headed by the Chancellor of the University of Jammu in which the teams from the University of Kashmir, SKIMS Soura, SKUAST Kashmir, Cluster University Srinagar, BGSB University Rajouri, Cluster University Jammu, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan Jammu, SKUAST Jammu and University of Jammu are participating in the Hockey (M&W), Football (M&W) and Cricket (M&W) game.
This is also to mention here that Chancellor Trophy is being hoisted first time by the University of Jammu after the successful organisation of the 1st and 2nd State Universities Sports Championships in the year 2017 and 2018 respectively in six games.
Around 500 players in men and women section from different universities of the J&K UT have confirmed their registration who are going to participate in these three games. Arun Malhotra (Son of Soil), Former International Footballer from Jammu was guest of honour on the occasion. He is a great source of inspiration to the young talented players of Jammu as he has represented the country from 2000 to 2005-06 in many International Tournaments. He is a State Awardee and Sher-e-Kashmir Awardee too and presently associated with ONGC.
Mr Malhotra also offered his services to the budding football players of University of Jammu
Earlier, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented the formal welcome address and detailed report of the various events held in the University.
Dr Baba also emphasised that Sports impart a sense of discipline, fellow-feeling and togetherness. Sports are the right avenues to channelize the energy and vitality of students in a positive direction. He also promised that University of Jammu will be front runner in nourishing the talent of the sportsperson who will ultimately make the Jammu as will the nation proud.

Kuldeep Magotra, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Dr Brij Baloria, Ramesh Shrama, Ramesh Magotra, Vinod Sharma, Vikas Karlopia, Ravish Vaid, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Sh. Gagan Kumar, Jai Bharat, PD Singh, S. Harinderpal Singh, Sanjeev Sharma, Sanjay Verma and in-charges of the participating teams.
