JAMMU, July 29: Advocate Ranjodh Singh, National Coordinator of the Sports Cell for the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), today led a protest by sportspersons, highlighting alleged irregularities and backdoor entries in the general provisional list under SO 12 sports quota. This list was published on the portal of the JK Sports Council on July 19, 2024.
During a media interaction, Ranjodh Singh leveled several allegations against the SO 12 special sports quota general provisional list, accusing the higher officers of J&K Sports Council of involvement in these irregularities. He raised specific objections to the list, pointing out that on 27th April 2021, five new sports disciplines, including Netball and Pencak Silat, were added to Annexure-1 for the special sports quota. Singh argued that medals won in these disciplines prior to their inclusion date should not be considered valid for government job appointments, but they allegedly were, violating the law.
Singh further asserted that national and international competitions or championships organized by de-affiliated or suspended federations/associations should not be considered for government job appointments. He noted that the provisional list includes some students who have played in open championships and represented other states, which should disqualify them from inclusion in the SO-12 sports list.
Additionally, Singh pointed out that some students have participated in international competitions without first competing in national events. He questioned how their international achievements could be accepted without national participation, which contradicts the policy. He also mentioned that many international championships, such as the traditional cup and others not mentioned in the sports policy, were considered in the provisional list.
Singh appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to investigate the matter, noting that the provisional list includes participants in open cadet championships, those representing Punjab, and those participating in junior championships. He also highlighted that benefits were given for previous achievements in the five games added in 2021 to students from suspended federations.
