JAMMU, Aug 25: Casual and daily workers of Agriculture Department sat on three-day `August Kranti’ protest dharna today under the banner of J&K Agriculture Workers & Casual Labour Union for pressing their old demand of regularization which is pending for the last over two decades.
The members of Union from Jammu province of Agriculture Department today assembled for protest dharna in the compounds of Directorate of Agriculture / Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo Jammu.
The casual and daily rated workers said that they have been deprived of their fundamental rights of minimum wages and honourable living along with their dependent family members since last more than two decades. Their children have been deprived of good education in private schools. Their dependent old age parents could not be provided medical facilities owing to their financial constrains due to non- regularization of their services.
In the modern times when a kg of raw rice is costing around Rs. 100 and a kg of wheat floor is being sold at Rs 40 the daily and casual workers of Agriculture Department have been engaged by the department at a monthly wages of Rs 6,500 since long.
The casual workers are demanding early regularization of their services when they have exhausted their golden youthful years of their life towards the services of Agriculture Department and at this age now they are being deprived of their right to life with meager monthly emoluments of Rs. 6500.
The protest dharna was lead by JKAWCLU president Devinder Singh Bittu, vice president Gyan Chand, general secretary Tilak Raj and others. Scores of Union members had come from the adjoining districts of Jammu. While adhering to COVID-19 SOPs protest- dharna was held with proper social distancing and wearing face masks by the participants.
