JAMMU, Jan 15: A deputation of All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) under the chairmanship of Abdul Majid Malik, president of the Union called on president of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Prof Saif –ud-Din Soz and apprised him of the problems of the OBCs in the State.
The delegation demanded due share to the OBCs in the Block Development Committees (BDCs) and Municipal Corporation elections as Prof Soz has already promised share to the OBCs in this regard.
The delegation further demanded enhancement of reservation quota for OBCs. It demanded adoption of para 95 of the Apex Court’s judgment of 1992 on Mandal report which speaks of the horizontal reservation and is required to be applied for RBA and ALC. By adopting this formula there is no loss of due share of any category including RBA and ALC and for this a visible picture through a table given in the memorandum was presented.
It was demanded that the Backward Classes Commission should be led by a member from OBCs and adequate representation should be given to OBCs in the Commission. The delegation also expressed concern over changing the name of Backward Classes Commission to Backward Areas Commission.
Prof Soz assured the delegation of the early redressal of the problem.
The other members of the delegation included Puran Chargotra, Master Sain Dass, Darshan Kumar, Sardar Jagjit Singh Labana, president Labana community, Sandokh Chand, Romesh Billa, Shiraj Izihari and Prof Kali Dass.
Vice Chairman of OBC Advisory and Development Board Kuldeep Verma was also present in the meeting.
