JAMMU, June 14: To continue protest in support of their demand for grant of 27 percent reservation to OBCs in the State, the members of All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) staged a dharna in front of Press Club here today.
The dharna was led by Abdul Majid Malik president of the Union and among others it was addressed by general secretary of the Union Prof Kali Dass, Puran Chargotra and other leaders. They alleged that the successive State Governments failed to implement the Mandal Commission recommendations which were implemented in the rest of country over two decades back.
The protestors raising slogans against the rigid stand of the Government towards the OBCs in the State took a pledge to take their present struggle to its logical conclusion. They said that under the garb of Article 370 the Government was depriving the community of the reservation benefits.
They said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his election rallies has raised the issue of Mandal Commission report and the members of the OBCs supported the Party to uproot Congress -NC but the BJP later turned its back towards these hapless people who overwhelmingly supported the Party in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
The OBC leaders said the BJP has no social justice policy and it claims regarding good governance are totally hollow till the OBCs are provided justice. They demanded 27 percent reservations, enhancement of creamy lawyer from 4.5 lakh to six lakh, renewal of OBC certificates on the basis of income certificates. They said if BJP-PDP has no social justice policy they can’t befool OBCs on the constitution of Board as mere constitution of Board can not provide justice to these hapless people.
They said BJP MP Udit Raj Singh raised the OBCs reservation issue in Parliament but the State leaders of the Party are maintaining stoic silence over the issue.
