AIIMS Jammu holds sports, cultural activities

JAMMU, May 16: A grand event named ‘IRIS’ was organized by All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Vijaypur at NITS Polytechnic (Makeshift campus) under the leadership of Director Dr, Shakti Gupta.
The mega event was organised by the Student Welfare Committee of AIIMS Jammu under the supervision of Dr Dinesh Rao, Professor and Head of Forensic Sciences at AIIMS Jammu and chairman of the Student Welfare Committee. The event witnessed the gracious presence of all the higher officials including the Dean, Deputy Director Administration, Associate Deans, Faculty of AIIMS Jammu, staff officials, and students.
The event comprised various sports and cultural activities which were arranged to make students come out of their comfort zone to showcase their individual talents and skills.
The Tug-of-War match between the faculties of AIIMS Jammu was the closing match, which was held in the gracious presence of Dr. Shakti Gupta, Director AIIMS Jammu, Dr Dinesh Rao.
The extraordinary evening (Cultural night) was also organized, wherein students showcased their talents through dance, music, drama and poetry. The event started with Ganesh Vandana and Saraswati Vandana, lamp lighting and a warm welcome speech by Dr Shakti Gupta, Director AIIMS Jammu followed by an address of Chairperson Dr Dinesh Rao.
The cultural events comprised solo songs, group songs, solo dance, group dance (hip hop/ bhangra/ Bollywood remix), and playing various musical instruments.
The atmosphere of the cultural night at IRIS was seen to be believed at the ramp walk which was the closing ceremony of the memorable cultural night. After regular trials and numerous efforts of the cultural committee, five girls and five boys were selected for the final ramp walk, which was judged by the faculty who were experts in the field.
This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony for various winners and runner-ups in various sports and cultural events and a vote of thanks by Chairperson Dr Dinesh Rao.
The IRIS-hostel and fresher’s day event played a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging among the students. The activities and interactions helped forge new friendships, break the ice, and create a supportive network within the hostel.
