That a modern and latest technological laced hospital on the pattern of the AIIMS should be in Jammu also is a genuine demand and almost all political parties including the ruling BJP supports it. We have , however, a super specialty hospital here, with good location, a nice attractive premises and easily accessible but are all facilities available there? Are specialist physicians and surgeons available there? Are all latest machinery in operation and workable there? Is nursing and other staff in adequate number to cater to the patients. Just take the case of our district and sub-district medical centres, at most of these centres, proper medical specialists and other technicians are not available as most of the posts are not filled.There is chronic shortage of staff. Another special hospital (AIIMS)does not mean a huge building but nothing in sight like PG, Chandigarh or AIIMS of Delhi.Where are all these medical students after qualifying going?Is there a rule or an undertaking taken from them before admitting them in medical colleges that they won’t leave Jammu and Kashmir for better prospects to stop drainage of talent?
