SRINAGAR, Apr 6: The day three of the All India Inter-University (AIIU) Powerlifting Championship 2025 witnessed vibrant celebration of athleticism, unity and global solidarity.
The day’s theme, “Leveling the Playing Field: Sport for Social Inclusion,” was brought to life as top powerlifters from across India showcased their strength and determination.
An impressive medal distribution ceremony capped off the day’s events, with Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, felicitating the winners. Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar KU, reaffirmed the University’s dedication to engaging students in activities that contribute to nation-building. Superintendent of Police, Hazratbal, Hilal Khaliq, praised the initiative for uniting athletes from diverse backgrounds, terming it a milestone for national cohesion.
Dr. Surjeet Singh, Coordinator of DPE&S KU, provided a detailed report on the day’s events. The evening ceremony, conducted by Tausif Bhat and Sheikh Adil, ensured a smooth and celebratory conclusion to the spirited competitions.
In the competition, Nandana Yenepoya from CTU University won the gold in the women’s 63 kg category, with Harini Priya Pariyar from Tamil Nadu securing silver and Pooja from Anna University taking bronze. In the women’s 69 kg category, Madhu from Anna University claimed the gold, followed by Parernar from the University of Mumbai with silver and Kajal from MDU Rohtak with bronze.
In the men’s 83 kg category, Pilly Udhay from JNTU Hyderabad clinched the gold, while Rohit from Sunrise University Rajasthan won silver and Sumanath from Mangalore University secured bronze. In the men’s 93 kg category, Syed Khajavali from JNTU Kakinada took the gold, Dharampal from CCS Meerut won silver and Vaibhav Samwal from Kumaun University earned bronze.
