KOLKATA, May 24: With domestic airline operations set to resume from tomorrow ( May 25), AirAsia India has announced opening of bookings for travel to 21 destinations across its network, even as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee insisted that aviation passengers services be resumed at end of this month in wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
Bengaleru based AirAsia in a statement said it will strictly follow the SOPs and guidelines laid out by the regulatory bodies to enable safe travel in view of pandemic threat.
Earlier GoAir said it would start flying aircraft for domestic passengers from May 25 onward as it received approval for its modified schedule which is based on one third of its pre-covid approved summer 2020 network.
” GoAir is ready and prepared to resume safe operations after the two month lockdown,” a statement said.
AirAsia India MD and CEO Sunil Bhaskaran said “We are appreciative of the government working collaboratively with all stakeholders to define the new protocols to help open up domestic flying in a calibrated manner keeping the health and safety of passengers and the airline crew in focus.”
Ms Banerjee on Saturday said the state was now facing tremendous pressure due to lockdown for Covid and this week super cyclone that created havoc of people and property in many south Bengal districts.
She told reporters that the air passengers services should start from this month end rather than from May 25 as proposed by the Centre. (UNI)
