JAMMU, Aug 20: All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association has appealed the State Government to complete all the Tourism related projects here for making Jammu an independent tourists destination.
Addressing a meeting while discussing the Govt plans in hand to promote tourism in Patnitop, Mantalai,Ranjitsagar Dam and banks development of Tawi river on Sabarmati style in Gujarat, AJHLA president Inderjeet Khajuria expressed anxiety over the fate of Jammu tourism.
“No doubt the tourism at these places will get a boost but how Jammu, the city of temples which presently gives a deserted look, will become an independent tourist destination by promoting places located at miles away is a hundred dollar question,” he said.
Referring to the traders apprehensions of economic debacle as a result of Rail link extension to Katra, Khajuria said that the livelihood of more than 5 Lac tourism dependent souls in Jammu is at stake. Further, decline in the number of yatries entering Shri Amarnath Yatra base camp Bhagwati Nagar year after year due to numerous reasons, is the cause of concern, he added
Mr Khajuria stressed that the ongoing tourism related projects, started by the previous Governments to promote Jammu as an independent tourists destination, should have been carried forward and completed as early as possible if the present coalition Govt is interested in promoting Jammu as tourist destination. “Tawi beautification project, artificial lake, Jammu Ropeway project, Multistoreyed shopping complex with parking and Interstate Bus terminal at general Bus stand, upgradation of Deer Park at Manda Sanctuary, Mubarak Mandi Heritage project, development of Mansar, Saruinsar and Suchetgarh border are among the projects, which can revive tourism in Jammu,” he explained and added that the present status of all these projects however shows that the Government is not serious about their completion.
Pawan Gupta, H S Manhas, Baldev, Sunil Suri and ML Sharma were among those present in the meeting.
