AJKCA to train 2 lakh youth under ‘Chess in School’ prog

JAMMU, May 10: In order to provide basic chess training to about 2 lakh youth of J&K in the next two years, All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA) has constituted two Divisional Committees for World Chess Federation’s programme “Chess in School” for the promotion of this royal game in State.
This was disclosed by Atul Kumar Gupta, President, AJKCA, who is also Joint Secretary of All India Chess Federation during a press conference here today
“For Jammu Division, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal has been selected as Chairman of the committee, whereas Raj Kumar as Co-Chairman, Arun Manhas as Secretary and Sumit Grover as Organizing Secretary. Dr AS Bhatia will be the advisor while Taranvir Singh Gujral will be the Patron of Jammu Division Committee. For Kashmir Division, Khalid Amin has been selected as Chairman of the committee, while AR Wani as Co-Chairman, Ashiq Ahmad as Secretary and Arshid as Organising Secretary. Mohammad Farooq Dhar will be the Patron of Kashmir Division Committee”, Gupta informed.
The Chief Patron and Chief Planner of activities related to both the Divisional Committees will be Atul Kumar Gupta himself.
Atul Kumar Gupta informed that the main focus of the program will be to provide basic training and the needed guidance to the youth. Association will also hold many inter and intra school chess competitions to identify the hidden talents in State, he said, adding that special events will be organised in the border areas of the State to nurture talent.
Tiny Tots School, Sainik Colony in collaboration with AJKCA is going to hold the first Mega Inter School Chess Tournament in its premises at Sainik Colony from May 13 to 16 with overall winner’s prize of Rs 10000 and six other category prizes of Rs 1000 each along with medals and certificates for the winners, Atul maintained.
Among others present were Baldev Raj and Taranvir Singh Gujral, Vice Presidents AJKCA, Dr AS Bhatia, Advisor, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Press secretary and Raj Kumar.
