JAMMU, Feb 2: Reiterating its demand for establishing three-tier Panchayati Raj system in the State, All Jammu Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Governor Satya Pal Malik for early conduct of Block Development Council (BDC) and District Development and Planning Board (DDPB) polls in J&K.
“The exercise of holding peaceful and successful Panchayat elections would be a meaningless and futile exercise if the Government does not establish three-tier Panchayati Raj system in J&K. We appeal the Prime Minister and the Governor for early conduct of BDC and DDPB elections in the state,” said Anil Sharma who was unanimously re-elected as State President of AJKPC here.
“It would be a great disrespect and dishonour to the mandate of electorate if the Centre and the State government backtrack from its commitment of having full empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) by holding BDC and DDPB elections in the State. We hope that the Prime Minister, who is visiting Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow, will make the announcement for strengthening of PRIs,” Sharma said.
