AJKPWA demands roll back of fare hike

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Mar 12: All J&K Passengers’ Welfare Association (AJKPWA) has strongly opposed the move of UT Government for hiking the fare by 19% in one go and asked the Lt Governor to immediately slash it up to 7%, otherwise it will be open and organised loot.
In a press statement issued here, today the president AJHPWA, RC Sharma, said that the 19% hike in fare is totally illegal, unethical and immoral and has no justification at any level so it should be immediately reduced to 7% to save the labour class. He said that rich people have their conveniences but the labour class has to travel by local passenger vehicles. He said the decision of hiking 19% in fare has been taken without proper homework and without the opinion of experts in this field.
Justifying the demand of roll back in fare hike, he said that with the hike in fuel prices only 3% burden has been put on a vehicle, whereas the hike in other expenses is 2% and the hike of 19% is not justified in any aspect.
