JAMMU, Sept 12: The pair of Akanksha and Divya guided Government College for Women (GCW) Parade to the semifinals alongwith SRML Commerce College Jammu, MIET Jammu and PG Department, University of Jammu in the women’s section of the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Badminton (Men & Women) Championship, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education at University Gymnasium Hall, here today.
Meanwhile in the men’s section, Government Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar, MIET Jammu, PG Department, University of Jammu and Government Degree College Kathua made it to the last four stage.
Earlier, in the quarterfinal matches of the women’s section, SRML Commerce College outplayed GGM Science College by (2-0). Prabjot Kour thrashed Sandeep Kour in the singles contest by (21-3, 21-5), while in the doubles event, the pair of Prabjot and Sanjana got better of Heena and Vidushi in two straight by (21-6, 21-2).
In another quarterfinal, Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) by (2-0). Diksha trounced Komal by (21-8, 21-7), while the duo of Diksha and Kiran prevailed upon the pair of Komal and Marvi by (21-11, 21-17).
In the third quarterfinal match, GCW Parade outclassed New Age College by (2-0), with Akanksha defeating Veena by (21-4, 21-3), while in doubles event, Akanksha and Divya overpowered Vernika and Anisha by (21-10, 21-5).
Meanwhile, PG Department, University of Jammu got walkover to make way for the semifinal stage in women’s section.
In the men’s section, GDC Ramnagar drubbed GDC Reasi by (3-1), MIET outplayed GGM Science College by (3-2), PG Department blanked MAM College by (3-0) and GDC Kathua thrashed GDC Udhampur by (3-0).
The matches were officiated by Amit Sharma, Sunil Amit Sharma and Ajay Sharma, under the supervision of Vikram Jamwal and Nisha Sharma.
