AKHNOOR, Dec 9: A special meeting of the Akhnoor ex-Servicemen Association was held under the chairmanship of Navy veteran Lakhbir Singh Sohal to honour the senior-most veterans for their dedicated service towards the welfare of ex-servicemen, Veer Naaris, and widows.
During the event, Col Bana Ram Sharma (Retd), Captain Dev Raj, Harnam Singh, Dharam Singh, and Rameshwar Dutt were presented with mementoes and shawls as a token of appreciation for their tireless efforts.
As per a statement issued by the Association, these veterans played a key role in establishing the Zila Sainik Welfare Office branch in Akhnoor, which has benefited over 30,000 ex-servicemen from the town and surrounding areas.
The Chairman, Lakhbir Singh Sohal, while addressing the gathering, praised the honoured veterans for their outstanding contributions and assured that the Akhnoor ex-Servicemen Association will continue to follow their example in addressing the needs of the ex-servicemen community.
He also wished them good health and urged them to remain active members of the association to guide future generations.
The Chairman also expressed concern over the rising drug abuse among youth and called for the construction of a new bypass road to alleviate congestion in Akhnoor town.
Col Bana Ram Sharma, Col GS Rana (special invitee from Chandigarh), Capt Dev Raj, and Rameshwar Dutt also addressed the gathering, urging all veterans to unite in securing their rights at both the UT and central levels.
The meeting was conducted by Sub Major (Retd) Mani Ram Bhagat, General Secretary of the association. Other prominent attendees included Capt Santosh Kumar, Bodh Raj, Gurmukh Singh, Raghbir Singh, Puran Chand, Kaka Ram, Karan Singh, and Jugal Gupta.
