Akhoon reviews supply of essential commodities

JAMMU, Aug 28: Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CAPD) and Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon chaired a meeting of officers of CAPD to review the stock and supply position of essential commodities in various districts of Jammu province.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister exhorted upon the concerned officers to ensure  timely distribution of essential commodities to the people. He stressed for advance stocking of foodgrains, sugar, K.oil and LPG Cylinders at higher reaches of Jammu province for convenience of the rationees.
The Minister also reviewed the status of allocation of foodgrains to welfare institutions under BPL Category. The meeting was informed that 922 qtls of rice and 800 qtls of atta have been allocated to Welfare Institutions under BPL Category.
The district wise status of availability of foodgrains, LPG and identification of BPL families, distribution of ration under different schemes have also been reviewed in the meeting.
It was informed that 7600 qtls of atta, 55010 qtls of wheat and 4425 qtls of sugar have been made available by the department in Jammu province.
Referring to bifurcation and segregation of ration cards, the Minister sought people’s cooperation for identification of deserving BPL beneficiaries for which he said the teams of Rural Development and CAPD are conducting survey.
To meet the ration requirement of people supply of essential commodities is being sought from Bhatinda which will help adequate availability of foodgrains in the State, the Minister added.
Among others, Director CAPD  Pervez Malik, State Level Coordinator R. K. Shahab, senior officers of CAPD, Indian Oil Corporation, Legal Metrology and other concerned departments were present in the meeting.
