BARAMULLA, July 7: Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar, today inaugurated the newly constructed Library Block at Government College for Women, Baramulla, that has come up at the cost of Rs 453.19 lakh. The Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Lecture hall that will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 535.24 lakh.
The Minister was accompanied by MLA Baramulla, Javaid Hassan Beig, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Sarita Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad, Principal Government College for Women, Baramulla besides other senior officers of the District Administration.
The Minister also visited vocational training centre established in the college in order to provide vocational training to the students in various fields. He said that, additional two designer machines would be provided to further facilitate the centre.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the present dispensation under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has taken up various initiatives to streamline the education system in the State. The Minister called for making academic and vocational courses relevant to market demands, so that educated youth do not have to wait for jobs. He said that vocational courses are being encouraged along with the academics so that the students could develop skills in order to earn their livelihood adding that the teaching community should guide students to pursue career oriented vocational courses so that they could meet the demands of the market driven economy.
MLA Baramulla and Principal, Government College for Women Baramulla also spoke on the occasion.
Later on the occasion a cultural programme was also presented by the students of the college.
