Alert cops seize Rs 18.80 lakh cash in Kalakote

RAJOURI, Nov 7: Alert police seized Rs 18.80 lakh from three different vehicles in Kalakote area of district Rajouri today.
SSP Rajouri, Dr Haseeb Mughal told the Excelsior that police men showing extra alertness and increased sense of responsibility in view of coming Assembly elections during checking at nakka points in Kalakote area today seized Rs 3.80 lakh, Rs 5.00 lakh and Rs 10 lakh from three different vehicles today and contacted him. He said that SHO Kalakote then detained the persons for questioning and informed him.
Dr Mughal said that he took up the matter with District Returning Officer (DC-Rajouri) and the money was then handed over to the Assistant Returning Officer of the concerned area for verification. The SSP said that DC after the completion of verification process of 3-4 hours told that after verification it was found that the money belonged to genuine persons. It belonged a contractor, a Jammu businessman and of the Rural Development Department being carried by a VLW. He said that in view of increased alertness before the elections, strict instructions have been issued to the cops at nakkas and others associated with flying squads to increase vigil and restrict movement of cash and other objectionable material as per instructions from Election Commission of India.
