SRINAGAR : An alert police sentry, guarding a National Conference (NC) leader house, in south Kashmir district of Shopian, foiled a militant attempt to snatch his weapon early Saturday, official sources said.
Militants fired upon a police guard, posted for the protection of NC leader Showkat Ahmad Ganie at village Chitragam in Shopian early this morning.
Alert guard returned the fire but the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness, they said adding a massive hunt has been launched against the militants in the area.
There was no damage in the firing, they said adding it was probably an attempt to loot weapons from the police guard. (AGENCIES)
