SRINAGAR, Dec 4: Almansoorian Ahmad of UAE, emerged winner in the second leg of “Tour De India” organised by Tour De India in collaboration with the International Cycling Federation. This was the first ever International Cycling race held here.
Naveen Thomas John from Bangalore came second followed by Sarmochi Sarva of Thailand. The runner-ups were Naveen, N Lokesh and Arun of India.
About 100 cyclists from different parts of the country and abroad participated in the one-day race, which took place on the banks of world famous Dal Lake.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah flanked by Minister for Sports RS Chib and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather flagged off the race at Royal Springs golf course this morning amid much fanfare.
The race saw participation of 68 foreign cyclists and 30 Indians who covered a total distance of over 160 kms (26 laps).
The valedictory function was presided over by Minister for Youth Services and Sports, RS Chib, who presented cheque worth Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 to first three toppers. Runner-ups were also awarded with cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000.
While speaking, Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib said that it is the first mega event of its kind here in the valley and would surely provide exposure to the youth of the State of an international level.
Among others present were Commissioner/Secretary Sports, Bipul Pathak, IGP Security, Ram Lohia, Secretary Sports, Mr Thussu, Director Sports, Jaipal Singh, Managing Director Tour De International, Dr Akeel Khan and Turf Manager, RSGC, Nuzhat Gul, Sports Officer and other officers of sports and traffic department.
The race is being held in three cities of the country. On December 2, the first leg of the race was held in Mumbai, second in Srinagar and the third and final leg will be held on December 9 at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
