PULWAMA, Nov 16: District Police Pulwama organized Altaf Dar Memorial Tournment Cricket Tournament in commemoration of martyr Inspector Altaf Ahmad Dar who laid his precious life in the noble cause of nation on October 7, 2015.
A total of 64 cricket teams will be participate in the Tournament, which was inaugurated by Tejinder Singh, SSP Pulwama at DPL ground Pulwama.
Javid Mir, ASP Pulwama , Ch Iftkhar Ahmed, DySP DAR Pulwama and other senior officers of Pulwama Police and Central Reserve Police Force were also present during the inaugural ceremony.
The inaugural match was played between Evergreen Cricket Club Pulwama and Youth Academy Tahab. Youth Academy Tahab won the toss and elected to field first. Evergreen Cricket Club Pulwama won the match by 8 runs.
Evergreen Cricket Club Pulwama scored 127/7 in 20 overs, while Youth Academy Tahab scored 119/10 in 19 overs. Mohd Altaf was declared as man of the match who scored 21 runs and got 3 wickets.
While interacting with media persons, Tejinder Singh SSP Pulwama said “This commemoration tournment gives us an opportunity to engage youth in sports related activities in order to prevent them from indulging in nefarious pursuits particularly drug abuse, stone pelting besides bridging the gap between Police and Public”. He also said that such type of Tournaments will be conducted by Pulwama Police in the future also so that energy of youth will be channelized in right direction.
