Sir,
It has reference to the news “Amarnath Yatra vehicles to have RFID tags : CRPF” (DE, June 14, 2018). The concern shown by the security agencies for the welfare of the Amarnath pilgrims is a welcome step. But no such step shall be taken that unknowingly makes them easy targets.
Not as a security expert but as a common man I feel that any such mechanism that helps security agencies to identify Yatra vehicles may be exploited by the terrorists to target them as well. The issue needs to be viewed in that direction as well.
The safe conduct of Yatra is always relief giving but it should not be construed as a measure of normalcy. After conclusion of his visit, the Union Home Minister in the back drop of Ramzan ceasefire, described the valley situation as normal. If looked into nationalistic perspective, it is a fact that there was a drop in terrorist and civilian killings and protests but at the same time there was an increase in deaths of security personnel and attacks on security agencies.
It cannot be taken as a sign of normalcy. The Home Minister needs to introspect.
Normalcy cannot be viewed with the prism of successful tourist season, Amarnath yatra or its likes but in totality. Sooner realised the fact, the better it is.
