JAMMU, June 12: Amid pandemic and partial lockdown situation-the Jammu based aspirants for the post of coaches have been forced to appear in an interview at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar for District level Khelo India Centres, evoking strong resentment among the Jammu based aspirants for what they called as discrimination with them and appeasement of Kashmir based aspirants.
The premier body of sports (J&K Sports Council) had published an schedule for the interview of the coaches in which 52 aspirants were shortlisted and decided that from serial numbers 1 to 26 candidates will appear for the interview on June 15 while remaining ones (from 27 to 52) will attend the interview in different sports disciplines on June 16 at New Administrative Block of Bakshi Stadium with vide order no. SC/3767/10 dated 03/06/2021 with reference to office notification No: SC/3767352-55 dated 19-04-2021.
The Jammu based candidates which is almost 50 percent of the total shortlisted candidates are showing ‘unwillingness’ to appear in the interview due to the ongoing pandemic and alleged that it is the well plan move of the Council to restrict Jammu based aspirants for the same posts and give more preference to Kashmir based aspirants, alleged one of the Jammu based aspirant while wishing anonymity.
On one hand, the premier body of the sports claims that it has been committed for the safety of players, coaches and banned all the sports activities across the UT by following the set guidelines and SOPs issued by the Government time to time, but on other hand, the same body has allowed to conduct interview for the post of coaches/ mentors at District level Khelo India Centres. “Although amid pandemic, the interview of the said posts should be postponed or conducted at province level at both the offices of the Council at Jammu and Kashmir but the Council’s officials deliberately do this to adjust its blue eyed,” said another aspirant.
“It is very difficult for me to travel more than 400 kms distance from Kathua to Srinagar and appear in an interview when limited transportation services are being allowed towards Kashmir from Jammu,” said another aspirant, adding that if the Council didn’t postpone the interview, it simply means that least Jammu based aspirants for the post of coaches can reach at the interview spot which will give more representation to Kashmir based aspirants.
Another aspirant said that most of the Jammu based aspirants belonged to far flung areas of Jammu province except few from the city based. First they travel from their respective places like Poonch, Basholi and Bani by travelling 200 km to reach Jammu, thereafter they board a bus or taxi for Srinagar, which is a hurried task for aspirants to appear before the interview panel.
Therefore, they have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor which is de-facto head of the department for postponing the interview or conduct the same at Jammu for Jammu based candidates, otherwise Jammu become laggard to get its due share in the recruitment.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Council shortlisted three candidates of Korfball discipline at serial number 31, 32 and 33 at Centre Samba and Pulwama which National Federation was unrecognised by International Korfball Federation in the year of 2015 with loss of recognition from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and unwillingness of the KFI (Korfball Federation of India) to adjust its statues in line with line of the Sports Code and lack of reporting and subscription payments towards the international federation.
Repeated calls were made by this journo to officials of the Council including Secretary Sports Council and Administrative Officer but both of them didn’t pick the phone call.
