JAMMU, Jan 3: As no headway appears on formation of next Government in Jammu and Kashmir even after more than ten days since declaration of Assembly results, Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah has summoned the State BJP Core Group meeting at New Delhi on Monday.
Meeting of the Core Group members with Amit Shah will be held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi at 12 noon for discussion on the latest political situation and emerging alignments for the Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, confirmed sources informed the Excelsior.
The message for emergency meeting with the national president was conveyed to the Core Group members this evening with an instruction to reach New Delhi party office by Monday at 11 a.m. sources added.
The Core Group of State BJP is the apex decision making body of the party in Jammu and Kashmir and comprised of Minister of State in the PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh, State BJP president and MP Jugal Kishore, State organizing secretary Ashok Koul, party MP from Ladakh Thupstan Chewang, Dr Nirmal Singh, Ashok Khajuria, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Kavinder Gupta, Bali Bhagat and Rajiv Jasrotia.
According to the sources, Amit Shah is likely to apprise the Core Group members about latest development on the possible political alignments for the Government formation in J&K and seek feedback on the same.
Besides a group meeting, the BJP national president is also likely to have one to one discussion with the Core Group members, sources further said and added a some other senior leaders of the party, including national general secretary Ram Madhav may also interact with the members.
Pertinent to mention that Ram Madhav had earlier convened the BJP Core Group meeting in Jammu on December 29 to discuss the party’s initiatives for formation of next Government in the State with the support of other parties and independent MLAs.
In the House of 87, BJP has emerged as the second largest party with the strength of 25 MLAs. PDP is the single largest party with 28 MLAs while National Conference and Congress have the strength of 15 and 12 Legislators, respectively in the Assembly.
On December 31, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti had called on Governor N N Vohra for apprising him of the party’s efforts on Government formation. State BJP leaders had met the Governor on January 1 but there was no headway on formation of Government and both the parties had sought more time for exploring the possible political alignments.
Sources said BJP was in touch with both PDP and NC for Government formation even as nothing concrete has so far emerged. While negotiations with PDP leaders are on, discussion with NC may re-open after the arrival of Dr Farooq Abdullah from abroad on January 6, sources hint.
PTI adds from Bengaluru:-
As stalemate continued in Jammu and Kashmir over Government formation, BJP chief Amit Shah today said his party is looking at “all possibilities” and hoped that a decision will come “anytime”.
“All options are open for BJP in Jammu & Kashmir. We are looking at all possibilities to form Government. I am hoping that a decision will come in this regard anytime,” he told reporters here.
He was responding when asked about the status of Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir where the stalemate is continuing for the last 12 days because of hung verdict in the Assembly elections.
BJP, which emerged the second largest party bagging 25 seats in the 87-member Assembly behind PDP (28 seats), has sought more time from Governor N N Vohra as it was holding talks with both People’s Democratic Party and National Conference (15 seats).
When a reporter referred to NC leader Omar Abdullah’s recent tweet that there was no deal with BJP, Shah said “Do you believe that Omar Abdullah will reveal all truth to you? …Even I cannot tell about it.”
Shah had said in Mumbai yesterday that, “Talks are on with both parties (PDP and NC). There has been no fruitful outcome (yet).”
