Anantnag enters LGs Rolling Trophy finale

ANANTNAG, Feb 25: Anantnag entered into finals of the ongoing LGs Rolling Trophy by defeating Ganderbal at Govt. Higher Secondary School Bijbehara, organized by Youth Services and Sports, here today.
The 2nd semi-final will be played at Khel Gaon Nagrota between Jammu and Doda on February 28, while the finals of Trophy will be played on March 9 at MA Stadium Jammu.
The inaugural ceremony of LGs Rolling trophies 1st semi-final was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Chief Executive Officer Mission Youth J&K along with Dr. Basharat Qayoom Deputy Commissioner Anantnag.
Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Kashmir Bashir Ahmad, SDM Bhijbehra and District Youth Services & Sports Officer Anantnag Mushtaq Pampori, DYSSO Srinagar Balbir Singh and Sports officer Ganderbal Shiekh Shafqat were also present at this event.
In his speech, the chief guest Dr Chaudhary appreciated the efforts of the department in making this event successful. He said Mission Youth provides a platform to the youth of the Union territory to showcase their talent.
Dr. Basharat Qayoom also spoke on this occasion. He assured that every possible help would be provided by the district administration in channelizing the sports talent of the Anantnag youth. He further stated that the district Administration is committed to develop the best in class sports infrastructure in the District so that the youth in large numbers are engaged in sports activities.
Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Kashmir in his welcome address, thanked the dignitaries for gracing the occasion which he said will encourage the field staff to work with zeal and zest.
The chief guest and other guests in the presence of international cricketer Parvaiz Rasool interacted with all players of both teams and witnessed the toss in the middle of the pitch which was won by host District Anantnag and decided to field first.
Ganderbal scored 152 for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. The highest score of 63 runs from 44 balls was made by Sayyar Sofi while Umar Farooq from Anantnag displayed a brilliant performance of 3 over’s, 29 runs and 3 wickets along with Arif Ahmad 23 runs from 4 over’s and 2 wickets.
In response, Anantnag won the match by a comfortable margin of 5 wickets in which Umar Farooq displayed again brilliant performance of 35 runs off 31 balls and Zahid Naseer scored 43 runs in just 19 deliveries. From the bowling side, Shahid Khan claimed 3 wickets by conceding 32 runs.
