JAMMU, Oct 29:  The Excise Department under the guidance of  T. Angchok, IAS Excise Commissioner, J & K and under the direct supervision of  Rajesh Sharma Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur thwarted yet another attempt of smuggling of Willow Clefts outside the State.
An official spokesman of the Department said that a vehicle bearing registration No.JK02AT-6277 reported at Toll Post Lakhanpur late last night and as per the documents produced it was reportedly loaded with fresh fruit apples consigned by  M/s Gusia Fruit Growers, 154-B Fruit Market, Shopian, Kashmir to M/s M/s Durga Trading Co., 56C, Fruit Mandi Bijnor UP vide Challan No( G.R.No.) 1006 dated: 26-10-2016. The vehicle was put to physical check. On physical checking of the vehicle, 4575 Nos willow clefts were recovered from it.
The driver of the vehicle namely Murad Ali along with the seized willow clefts has been handed over to the SHO Police Station, Lakhanpur for further investigation in the matter. It is worth while to mention here that the Toll Post Lakhanpur has been able to detect major haul of willow clefts and has seized 12875 willow clefts during the current financial year. The team of the Excise Department that performed the task comprised of Excise and Taxation Officer Muzzaffer Hussain Wani, Inspectors,  Rajesh Chander and Mohd. Younis and Sub Inspectors, Mohd. Rafi and Excise guards  Tarsem Singh and  Sham Lal.
