Sir,
The Board of School Education not only conducts the various school examinations but also frames the policies regarding school level education. It has to work with education experts of national and international level. Its Chairman should therefore be a person with national and international exposure. Therefore, the unwritten law is to appoint the Chairman from among senior Heads of departments of J&K Universities. Such eminent persons as Dr Agha Ashraf Ali, Prof Inderjeet Singh, Prof J R Rathore Prof Matto, all well known at the national level, thus occupied the Chair of the Chairman Board. However, during the past decade or so, politicians have begun to play the role in the appointment of Chairman Board and College Principals with hardly any knowledge of School Education or exposure, have started becoming Chairman Board. The result is that the Board is no longer among the top most Boards of the country, which it was once upon a time. The new Government should assign top most priority in saving the Board from further deterioration.
Yours etc….
