Aptitude test for IAS

Sir,
“Aptitude Test: A test that is designed to reveal whether subject is suitable for a particular type of work or course of training.”
The current debate ,or may I use the term uprising, by the candidates desirous of sitting for the    allied  services ( IAS ) examination  of the UPSC scheduled to be conducted from the 24th August ’14 seems to have no legs to stand upon . The uppermost grouse they appear to have is the one against the Aptitude Test which is termed as CSAT. The question paper for this test is printed in both English and Hindi languages hence, as they explicitly mentioned, is not the language. It is established that each one of us possesses a special faculty of doing something in a better manner, in other words,, a natural ability or skill at doing a task more perfectly. This CAST is designed only to ascertain the candidate’s suitability for the task at hand; wonder why they should shirk from this test and ask for abolishing the same. May the two great mathematicians Ramanujam and Einstein be remembered, who at the start of their lives, worked as clerks till their talent was discovered. Had they been born at an appropriate time their aptitudes may have been discovered earlier and wonder what great benefits this world have been bestowed with. Further, our Nobel Laureate Prof C.V.Raman kicked off the ICS to join as Lecturer in Physics at Presidency College , Calcutta, also, the great agricultural scientist Dr. Swamynathan refused IPS to join Pusa Agricultural Institute in Delhi.
IAS is not a qualifying examination, it is a fine filter and the task assigned to UPSC is to remove the filtrate. Over the years they have optimized a process and keep on upgrading the same depending on the evolution of the society.
In the ’60s BE and MBBS graduates were not allowed to appear for IAS, over the years they fought for their rights and now-a-days every graduate is qualified for it. These candidates have already passed through very many types of aptitude tests before they graduate; the same applies to IIM graduates too. During their course work they receive rugged and rigorous training .Therefore it is natural that among them larger numbers would qualify. One has got to hone him/herself to qualify this examination. A Kashmiri saying goes  thus :” When you sense a Moghul speak in Persian”!
Yours etc…
