Archives Deptt releases first ever calendar on ancient treasures of State

JAMMU, Jan 23: To attract more and more people towards the ancient art, monuments, museums and cultural heritage of the State the Directorate of Archives, Archeology and Museums  today released its 2nd Annual Heritage Calendar 2016 with some more information about artifacts consists of Jewellery, Painting, Coins, Bronze Sculptures, Textiles, Epigraphic etc.     The Heritage Calendar was released in an impressive function held here today by Director Archives and Museums, M S Zahid.
Besides attracting tourists from outside towards the ancient artifacts of the State, the calendar has been also released with an aim and objective to create Heritage Preservation Awareness among the general public so that the rich heritage culture of the State in its varied forms is preserved for coming generation.
It may be recalled that the Department with its primary mandate to preserve and maintain the cultural heritage of the State, has developed a new history to reach the public by its colorful heritage calendar in the year 2015, which showcases the treasures of Jammu and Kashmir State preserved in our Museums.  It is for the first time in the history of this pioneer Cultural Organization that it published its maiden calendar which depicts the pictures of different artifacts housed in the  museums of the State including the world famous Sri Partap Singh Museum of Srinagar.
The heritage calendar covers the magnificent descriptive pictures of Artifacts i.e. map of Srinagar city on Textile belonging to 19th Century A.D., Arabic  Inscription 17th Century A.D., Textile depicting family of Lord Shiva 19th Century A.D., coins of Sultanat period, Sugatisandarsana Lokesvara 10th Century A.D., Birth of Sidhartha 7th Century A.D., Persian Inscription 17th Century A.D., Surahi Serpentine Stone 20th Century A.D., Papermashie Flower Vase 19th Century, Enameled Fire Port (Kangri) 19th Century A.D.
Speaking on the occasion he said the Department is involved in the task of conservation, preservation and maintenance of composite cultural heritage of the State. In its outreach programmes the Department is also holding seminars and exhibitions to showcase the State’s wonderful heritage so that general public is made aware of their rich cultural heritage and they would support the department in maintenance of their heritage. Besides, more and more tourists are attracted towards art, archaeology, monuments, museums, heritage buildings and other aspects of our cultural heritage, he added.
Mr Zahid said In the changing global scenario the Department is not only preserving cultural heritage for posterity but also showcases it in more attractive manner to promote heritage tourism in the State so that the tourists are able to explore  & appreciate our glorious past housed in the museums of the State.
