JAMMU, Dec 29: Amir Hussain Lone, an armless cricketer from Kashmir, is set to establish an Indoor Cricket Academy in his native village of Bijbehara, Anantnag, with support from the Adani Foundation. Amir, who captured worldwide attention after cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar personally praised his determination, is now fulfilling his dream of creating a training hub for young cricket talents from Kashmir.
Dr. Anshu Kataria, Founder of Aryans Group of Colleges, expressed his admiration for Amir’s dedication. “With this academy, children from Kashmir will have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the national level,” he said. The academy, funded by a generous Rs 67.6 lakh contribution from the Adani Foundation, will feature two indoor turf pitches, allowing players to train year-round despite heavy snowfall in the region.
Amir’s journey has been one of perseverance. After losing both arms in an accident at age eight, he has continued to play cricket using his feet and neck. “The academy will provide free coaching to about 100 children,” Amir said.
