Arms haul in Gandoh

JAMMU, Feb 6: Army and police today busted a hideout of the militants at village Suranga Kunthal Drabdi under the jurisdiction of Gandoh police station in Doda district and recovered a large quantity of arms ammunition and explosives.
Official sources said a joint team of 26 Rashtriya Rifles and police team of Operation Camp Gandoh carried out a joint search operation at Suranga and recovered the consignment.
The seizure included one Light Machine Gun (7.62mm), one magazine of LMG, two Chinese pistols with two magazines, five shells of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) and one UBGL thrower.
SSP Doda Mohammad Sharief Chouhan said the recovered LMG had been looted by the militants from police party of Operations Group Gandoh from an encounter site at Trunkhal, Gandoh in 2001. An SPO was killed and two police personnel were injured in the encounter.
The consignment reportedly belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, which was presently defunct in district Doda.
