JAMMU, May 17: The Army jawans today averted a major fire tragedy at village Thati in Akhnoor Sub division this afternoon.
Sources said that a fire broke out at Thati village at around 12.45 pm of tehsil Akhnoor today. The fire spread along Chenab river in wild bushes and trees near the houses of the villagers.
A panic gripped the area and the villagers they reported the matter immediately to nearby Army unit. A team from the Army unit along with water bowser rushed to the spot and carried out fire fighting to operation. No damage to man and material was reported.
The timely action prevented a major damage to overhead power lines and cultivated land of villagers. The fire due to its proximity to village could have caused immense damage to village property. The local lauded the prompt Army action.
