KATRA, July 13: The five days DST sponsored Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Science Internship Camp concluded at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), here today.
The highlight of the penultimate session was the lecture delivered by Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, GOC-in-Chief, Northern Command.
While interacting with 322 young interns from all the districts of Jammu Division, Army Commander underscored the importance of such initiatives in ensuring that India attains self-sufficiency in developing future technologies on its own and its role in feeding the make in India programme.
He introduced the interns to the role of S&T in Army and said that Army as an institution has vast opportunities to purse various fields of Science and Technology. Earlier, Dr Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVD University welcomed the Army Commander and expressed his gratefulness. While speaking on the occasion, Prof Jain said that in a short span of time SMVD University has made a mark at National level through its state of the art infrastructure, highly qualified faculty and motivated students. Next, the valedictory function of the camp was addressed by Dr A. Mukhopadhyay, Advisor & Scientist G, Department of Science and Technology, GoI who inspired the students to become nation builders by pursuing various challenging problems being faced by the society in S&T filed. Further, Dr Mukhopadhyay thanked the organizers for organizing these camps and requested Dr Sunil Wanchoo, PI/ Coordinator from SMVDU to continue organize these camps in future as well.
