RAJOURI, June 28: With an aim to promote communal harmony and to inculcate sportsman spirit amongst the youth, a ‘Kaumi Ekta’ Volleyball Tournament was organized by the Army at Samote, which concluded, here today.
A total of six teams from villages of Samote, Budhal, Upper Budhal, Phalni, Targin and Darman of Rajouri District participated in the tournament, which was played on league cum knock-out basis.
The event witnessed an over whelming response both in terms of participation and spectators.
Budhal village team was eventually adjudged the champion team after trumping Bakori village team in a keenly contested match. Prizes were given to the winners, runners-up and the best player of the tournament, in appreciation and encouragement of the youth talent, skill and sportsmanship.
The event was part of the Army’s efforts to promote positive youth development through sports and provide a platform to showcase the sporting talent of local populace.
The Deputy General Officer Commanding felicitated the finalists of all events at the end of the programme
and complimented the locals for making the event a grand success. He was convinced that such kind of events would further enhance coordination and synergy between Army, local administration and the Awaam.
