URI, June 7: The Army in north Kashmir’s Makrool Patti locality of village Lachhipora near Boniyar constructed a much needed bridge for the convenience of general public.
Makrool Patti is a small mohalla of village Lachhipora with a population of approximately 400. The locality is separated from the main village by a Perennial nallah (Gujjar Nala) approx 3-4 feet deep and 30 feet wide. The only means of communication to and from Makrool Patti is a wooden bridge constructed by villagers themselves, which got damaged during floods of 2014.
Subsequently, a make shift bridge was laid by locals which got washed away in March 2015 due to heavy rainfall which made the crossing of the nallah impossible, an official said, adding this became a source of major concern for the locals especially school children, teachers and other daily commuters.
After realizing the gravity of the situation, Lachhipora Army Camp Commanding Officer along with Sarpanch, Ward members and locals of Lachhipora met on April 13, where the decision to construct an Iron bridge on the said nallah was taken.
The construction of the said bridge began on May 3 and finished on May 21. The bridge was inaugurated by a little girl of Lachhipora on June 6.
