NEW DELHI, Sept 10:
People in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir are facing a unique problem but the Indian Army has come out with an equally innovative answer to it — ‘the great Indian Jugaad’.
With no electricity in the affected areas and no sign of its restoration in the coming days, lakhs of mobile handsets which are a crucial connect for the people in the submerged areas, have been completely discharged and become useless.
To ‘energize’ the mobiles, the Army has turned its trucks into the mobile chargers with huge generators to power the dozens of charging ports created on them. These ‘Charging Trucks’ are attracting huge crowds from all over Srinagar.
Whenever these mobile charger trucks are spotted, a tampede is witnessed.
The Army has converted as many as 38 trucks into mobile chargers which are moving around from one locality to another to let people charge their handsets.
In the absence of mobile and telephone connectivity, people from outside the State are trying to know the whereabouts of their near and dear ones through social networking.
The Army has received more than 15,000 messages till date on its twitter account and facebook page. Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag too has described the communication and connectivity problem as the biggest challenge. (UNI)
