Army holds Mini Marathon in Kargil

KARGIL, June 16: On the 25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army organized a Mini Marathon (Run for Fun) for students in Kargil, Ladakh. The event saw enthusiastic participation from more than 316 students aged 15 to 18 years, from both boys’ and girls’ categories.
Starting from Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, the 5-kilometer run followed a route towards Khumbathang road and back. Brigadier Pratheet Prashar, Commander of the 121 Infantry Brigade was the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Suse was the guest of honour, jointly flagged off the marathon.
In boys category Jaffar Ali from GHSS Lankerchay clinched the first position by finishing the run in 15.24 minutes, Bilal Abbas came 2nd and Asif Ali remained at 3rd position.
In the girls category; Tohira Bano secured 1st position, Zainab Bano 2nd and Chocho Zahra claimed 3rd position. Nine-year-old Rizwan Ali was recognized as the youngest participant who got the special mention award.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil praised the collaborative efforts of the local community and the Indian Army during Operation Vijay, which led to significant victories in the challenging terrains of Drass, Kargil and Batalik. He highlighted the importance of such events in commemorating these sacrifices and fostering community spirit. He further added that the district administration is also collaborating various events with the Indian Army to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas.
International player and Coach Sajjad Hussain expressed his gratitude towards the Indian Army for organizing the marathon, noting its role in providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and discover new opportunities. The mini marathon is part of a series of events organized by the Indian Army in conjunction with the District Administration.
