Srinagar, Mar 2: Army today inaugurated a modern ‘youth mela’ dedicated to the aspirations of today’s youth in Charar-e-Shareef area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
A defence spokesman said with the imposing Pir Panjal Ranges in the back drop and flushed with the blessings of the holy shrine in its close proximity, the sports ground in Charar was witness to an over 3000 enthusiastic crowd of all ages and gender from urban as well as remote regions of Kandi belt.
“The Mela was aimed at providing a focused guidance on various career opportunities available for different age groups and qualifications. The highlights of the event were inauguration of upgraded Sports Complex at Chrarar-e-Sharief, Mobile Chinar 9 Jawan Club, commencement of cricket tournament and drawing competition for school children,” he said.
The spokesman said a stall was also established by ARO Srinagar which explained the youth about various entry schemes to Armed Forces. “A medical and dental camp was also organised during the event. Over 600 patients benefitted from the Medical camp,” he said.
The event was inaugurated by Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen Satish Dua, who complimented the youth for their grit, determination, high spirit and overwhelming participation, said the spokesman.
On the occasion, Chinar Corps Commander also felicitated children and youth from various organisations that participated in the event, women empowerment centre run by the Rashtriya Rifles, cricket teams from Budgam district, Chinar 9 Jawan Club, Qasba Nagam, orphanage children from Chadoora and Khansahib and volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra volunteers.
“Certificates were awarded to the candidates who had successfully completed Food and Beverage course which was held for unemployed youth of Pulwama district,” he said, adding that the event was attended by TV personalities, Government officials and a renowned Hockey player.
