SRINAGAR, Aug 30: An Army jawan was killed and another injured today in an ongoing operation against a militant group in the frontier district of Kupwara.
Sources said militants attacked an Army search party at Baran Top in Kalaroos in Lolab, Kupwara today killing one Army jawan and injuring another. The Army person has been identified as Chumman Jadhav of 28 RR of Bhillia district Chattisgarh and injured has been identified as Pankaj Sharma of Solan, Himachal Pradesh.The injured jawan was rushed to the hospital.
Army also retaliated but the militants managed to escape in the dense woods under the cover of darkness. A massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants responsible for the attack.
Army has been conducting search operations in these forests for the last 15 days, which has resulted in many encounters between security forces and militants in which four soldiers and nine militants have been killed.
The Kalaroos operation was started a week ago after Army received information about infiltration of a group of militants in the area. Four militants of the group were killed so far and Army lost three jawans in the operation.
